The bodyLab studies

bodyLab is currently running two studies. The body shape study asks users to rate the attractiveness of men or women according to body shape. The male faces study requires users to judge men's faces in terms of attractivness, masculinity, health and parenting skills.


You will be given some instructions after selecting an experiment.


Before starting we will ask you for some basic information about yourself. This information is anonymous and will be kept confidential.

Body Shape Study

Participant Selection and Purpose of Study
You are invited to participate in a study of the basis of how body shape influences human attractiveness. If you decide to participate, we will ask you to evaluate the attractiveness of a range of 3D models of human males or females. We anticipate the experiment will take approximately 10 minutes.

Confidentiality and Disclosure of Information
None of the information that is obtained in connection with this study will be able to be identified with you. Your participation in the study will remain confidential and will be disclosed only as required by law. If you give us your permission by clicking 'Next' at the end of this section, we plan to discuss and publish the results of this study in an academic context of conferences and journal publication. In any publication or conference, information will be provided in such a way that individual rating data cannot be identified.

Facial Hair Study

Participant Selection and Purpose of Study
You are invited to participate in a study of the judgements made on male beardedness. If you decide to participate, we will ask you to evaluate a range of facial photographs. We anticipate the experiment will take approximately 15 minutes.
